~ THE DOCTORS AT CIVIC FELINE CLINIC ~
Dr. Josie Thompson graduated from Colorado State University in 1978 with special recognition for interest and skill in feline medicine. After internship at the University of Pennsylvania in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery, she moved to Walnut Creek to practice. In 1987, she joined the Civic Feline Clinic and realized a life long dream to specialize in feline medicine.

In 1989, Josie began continuing eduCATion courses in exotic pet medicine and has added them to her other patients. She is a staff veterinarian for the University of California, Berkeley’s Lawrence Hall of Science’s exotic animals. Josie lives in Walnut Creek with five beautiful pet cats, some handsome pet chickens and a pet husband.

Dr. Georgia Blaine graduated from Colorado State University in 1985. She then worked in a large 24-hour practice in Denver and gained invaluable experience in emergency medicine. She reloCATed to Los Angeles and continued to practice quality small animal medicine and surgery. Her family reloCATed to the Bay Area in 1992 and working in a cats-only hospital became her top priority. Georgia joined the staff in 1993 and now enjoys practicing medicine and surgery with her favorite species - the feline. She lives in Orinda with (in order of cuteness) a gorgeous teenage daughter - Sage, 3 cats, a dog and a husband.

Dr. Melanie Ellis is a graduate of U.C. Davis Veterinary School. She also holds a degree in English from University of Tulsa, Olkahoma. She did many years of research in both human and animal medicine before attending vet school. She has always had an interest in doing feline-only medicine and was President of the student chapter of the AAFP while in school. Dr. Ellis also enjoys seeing rabbits, reptiles and small pocket pets. She is married with a young son and has a baby girl on the way (due November, 2006). We are pleased to have her join the Civic Feline Clinic and we hope to have many years of her veterinary skills - while watching her family grow.

~ THE COOL CATS AT CIVIC FELINE CLINIC ~

Michele Bennett (above left) is a wonderful technician and was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. She has lived in California since 1981 and just loves animals. She has been a veterinary technician since 1983 and has found that working with cats at the Civic Feline Clinic nourishes her soul. She is proudly owned by a Siamese, a Javanese and a Domestic Shorthair.

Kayla Freier (above right) joined the clinic in December 2006. She is a graduate of Cal Poly at Pomona with a B.S. in Animal Health Science. She has always worked with animals and she particulary loves cats and helping their owners (for want of a better word). She lives in Walnut Creek with her fiance and their 3 cats. She enjoys stand-up comedy, rock music and anything associated with kitty-cats. She intends to pursue certification as a Registered Veterinarian Technician (RVT) but is already doing an excellent job for our hospital.

Patrick Loesch (left) is the general Office Manager of the Civic Feline Clinic. His duties include (but not limited to); ensuring that staff do not slack off, keeping staff smiling whenever the Doctors are not in a good mood, chasing the kitties to ensure they get daily exercise, making enough noises to keep the staff awake during slow periods and most importantly, keeping track of all the financial responsibilities of the clinic. Patrick may often be seen managing the front office and performing surgery on the staff.

Teri Scarborough (right) is our wonderful animal care person. Teri was born in Hayward, CA and after working with forklifts in warehouse work, learned about a job caring for cats at Civic Feline Clinic in 1998. She enjoys her job very much and puts her heart into it. One of her hobbies is making cat-shaped wooden baskets that can hang on your wall. Her baskets are available for purchase at the hospital.

Denise Craven (above left) had previously come to our clinic as a client and decided that a position as a technician suited her because of her love for cats. She had worked in a veterinary hospital 17 years ago before making motherhood her primary occupation. She was born in Massachusetts and she has been married for 20 years. She has a 17 year old son and who must compete with her 3 kitties.

Jacqueline Dupree (above right) is a new receptionist. “Jack” is a successful transplant from New York state and most recently from Colorado. Her father was a gamewarden and the family lived on a ranch. She has a great love of all animals, including chickens, horses, cows, dogs and the supreme species CAT. She has an extensive background in human medical administration but she prefers the high paced action of the Civic Feline Clinic, where she puts her love of cats and her expertise with people to good use. She loves to eat good food, to shop and to take care of her family (daughter, grand-daughter, son, three cats, one dog and a few fish). She is great on the phone... so, call her up.

Angela Loesch (above left - feeding the office manager) is another of our great hard-working receptionists. She lives in Walnut Creek with her boyfriend and their “boys”, Buddha the Cat and her newly arrived son Patrick - who can often be seen managing the front office. In her quiet times, Angela enjoys reading, stitchery and painting. She joins us from the retail field in her first experience working in the veterinary field. She says she loves it!

Marie Simonson (above right) is our newest cat wrangler (technician). She was born in San Francisco and moved to concord in 1995. She started her work experience in a large pet store but wanted to be involved in health care of the animals. She has been a veterinary technician for 4 years and she likes the odd combination of cats and reptiles. She has an orange cat (Hobbes) and a uromastix lizard. Marie likes to snowboard and crochet blankets for her cat!

Katie Vosper (above-left) is another of our great hard-working receptionists. She came from a background in the financial industry with only a love of cats as her experience. Katie was a client from 1986 with her first cat Walter. Being able to bestow love upon the kitties is the best perk of working at the Civic Feline Clinic. Katie loves the kitty patients and boarders - just as much as she loves her husband and her own 7+ cats.

Rosemary Kelley (above right) is another all around nurse with dentistry and grooming skills. She was a dental technician in her other life and is now our main groomer. She has a great understanding of how to get those cats with bad hair days to look their best. She has many interests and enjoys walking her dog several times a week. Her greatest interest though is with animals in loving and caring for them. She has been with the hospital since 1993.

Helga Wilhelm-Coleman (far-right) has retired and now works at home producing our hand-made catnip mice. You can find them in a basket on our front counter.
