Rosemary pampering a kitty

A well-groomed happy kitty
Spa Treatment: Bring your cat to our Cat-Spa for grooming and bathing needs. Our caring and experienced staff specializes in making your cat well-groomed and parasite free. We have a lot of experience with long-haired cats and ones with a contrary attitude toward being groomed. Routine brushing and grooming is important for each cat’s health and attitude. Don’t hesitate to call us the next time your cat wants a special make-over and pawdicure.

Tips for Grooming your Cat at Home: The most important tool for grooming the long-haired cat is a good metal comb such as the Belgian made “Greyhound” comb. Start when your kitten is young to get him used to the process. If your cat is older, start slowly - patience will reward you both. Try when your cat is tired and start at his head and back. Combing along the tummy and under the legs are more difficult because these areas often mat first. A wire “slicker brush” is used for removing excess hair but not for getting out mats. Never try to remove mats with scissors as the skin pulls up easily with the mat. We have sutured may such wounds on client’s cats. The only answer for the heavily matted cat is the electric clipper and professional grooming. Small mats are most easily removed by working them apart with your fingers.

After the cat is dematted the next step is to clip the nails and attempt to get kitty into the bath. Use a product labeled for cats! The kitchen sink with a sprayer is a good place for a bath. Have plenty of towels and warm water. Wet the cat and apply shampoo from the top of the head down the back. If possible, leave the cat lathered for several minutes with the shampoo. Be sure to rinse well. The eye area can be cleaned with a wash cloth or a soft toothbrush if heavily stained. Putting a gentle eye ointment from your veterinarian in both eyes can protect from irritation. After towel drying, you can use a hairblower to finish the job. Comb the cat while drying for a beautiful, fluffy appearance.
